ICYM: catching up

Dec 16, 2025

I can't believe it's already been about three months since I launched this new website, newsletter, podcast, and a revamp of my YouTube channel.

So just in case you're new(ish) here or if you've been busy doing some col things, I thought I'd catch you up on what has been going on in this little space.

Before we get into that, how are you liking Writing Studio? I'd love to hear from you.

I decided to give podcasting, YouTubeing, and regular(ish) newsletter writing a shot this autumn. It's really fun and so far, it's going okay, especially since I gave myself a TON of time (for example, only one YT video per month, only one podcast episode per month, etc).

But still, I wonder if these are a bit too all over the place and it would be better to just focus on two? What are your thoughts? There are no right or wrong answers, just suggestions for exploration and experimentation :)

Okay, now that we got that out of the way, let me catch you up!

YouTube

Are you already with me on YouTube?

So far this year, we've talked about info-dumping, predictability in creative writing, Now You See Me plot twist, craft books every writer "should" know, and ideas for gifts for writers.

And if you want to explore the channel itself, you can find it here:

Creative Mindset podcast

This is a fun podcast where we explore different aspects of, you guessed it, creative mindset.

So far this year, we have talked about overcoming writer's block, dealing with envy, jealousy, and comparison, doubts about the originality of your ideas, and impostor syndrome.

This months episode will be about setting realisting goals and avoiding burnout. Coming soon!

Catch up on the episodes over here:

Writing Studio newsletter

Last but not least, there is this very newsletter that you are reading right now!

Over the past few months, we dove into some pretty interesting topics. Since this one has weekly posts, I won't go over all of them.

But some of my favourite ones were the one about my pocket notebook and the one about how characters are not real people. Have you read them?

Read all posts here:

Offerings

And just as a little reminder, I also have two paid offerings that you can find via my website.

One is the really cool workshop on plot twists (that will probably help even writers who don't care about plot twists at all):

Plot Twist Magic

And the other one is the 1:1 session:

Work With Me

You're warmly invited to check them out 😊

How have your past three months been? Hopefully, full of autumnal joys, and now you have been able to enjoy December for a bit.

I wish you a wonderful week ❄️

Until next time,

Katja

It can be so easy to do other stuff...
Have you ever made plans to write, and you really truly sincerely did mean it in the moment, but then... stuff came up and you ended up not writing at all? Household chores, work stuff, family stuff, friend stuff, other obligations, other hobbies, this or that. All of a sudden, it's Sunday again and you're making the same - really truly sincerely meant - plans as the week before. Maybe even ...
I am not where I thought I'd be a year ago - and that's okay
Recently, I recorded a new YouTube video. It's about using tropes in creative writing and it was a lot of fun to prepare and to make. However, I got stuck in the editing phase. You see, I and video editing are not really best friends. There are aspects of it that I enjoy and there are things about it that make it fun. But mostly, I find it tedious and, tbh, kind of hate doing it. It's fun but a...
When two monsters meet: Resistance and FOMO
What are your main challenges with writing or keeping a regular writing schedule? My personal ones are two monsters that are so sneaky precisely because they contradict each other, rendering me paralysed if I'm not careful. Resistance On one hand is the Resistance. You know Resistance, I bet you've met her. Perhaps she even pays you a visit regularly as well. What does Resistance say? I can't ...
